About the event
A dog arrives with a distended abdomen, unproductive retching and an owner who’s understandably panicking. Your heart rate might be climbing too… so where do you start?
Join us for How to ACE Emergencies in General Practice – GDVs!, a practical, case-based CPD evening where we’ll work through these daunting emergencies from presentation to ongoing care — scary bits and all.
Together, we’ll talk through recognising a GDV, prioritising those first few minutes, stabilisation, diagnostics and gastric decompression, before tackling surgical decision-making, monitoring and postoperative care. We’ll also explore those difficult conversations with owners about treatment, costs and prognosis.
With real-world GP practice in mind, we’ll discuss what to do, why you’re doing it and how to keep moving when the case feels overwhelming. Whether you’re a recent graduate or an experienced vet who still gets that sinking feeling when someone says “possible GDV”, this session is for you.
